Looking for Project Admin & Developer

I will post here if I need some help with the project. Such tasks could include logo creation, documentation, or a general developer position.

Looking for Project Admin & Developer

Postby blasto333 » Sun Mar 14, 2010 12:58 pm

I am looking for someone to take over the development and project roadmap of php point of sale. I simply do not have the time or desire at this current moment. The person would be responsible for releases, development, and features of php point of sale.

Obviously, we need to respect your decision.

What makes it disappointing is that although I am very new in this forum, there seems to be quite a bit of interest lately for this product.
An interest that, I feel would of grown, as more features would make it a viable solution.

I do not have the expertise needed in PHP and CodeIgniter(yet) to be able to "take over".

A lot of people here are posting requests based on their own needs and interests(including myself) and what I think is needed is a comprehensive list of priorities, where people could vote on. For you or who ever is going to take over, it is not possible to accomodate everyone's needs in an unorderly fashion.

As requests features are added to the list, the ones with the most votes you get developement priorities, with a clear feedback to us on a time frame for these feature releases.

I am only one, and I can understand, with the amount of e-mails that we privatly exchanged, that you would get frustrated with this process.

Don't give up on us Chris, we need you! :)

Chris,

I am probably the newest addition to the forum. My expertise is lost somewhere back years ago and slowing coming back to me. The size of this project alone, is more than ONE person could handle.

What I would propose is to put together a team and delegate to them sub priorities, and then have each of them report back to you. This would free up a tremendous amount of your time.

I too understand how ones time can be a precious commodity, and have numerous things that I must do with mine too; But I DO see the tremendous potential of this project. That said, I am willing to work in any capacity large or small that it takes to see it continue. Please know that I'm here for you if requested.

Feel free to contact me via my personal email on file, or by Cell phone that I've provided in a private message to you.

Anyone else that is willing to join a group effort and collaborate on this, please know that I am willing to work collaboratively with anyone subject to Chris's approval.

All the best regards,
Tom Moore

If someone can take the lead and organize the reporting structure/responsibilities on the wiki (wiki.phppointofsale.com) that would be great. I am not going to have a lot of time to work on the project anymore, but I will try to see if I can get an organization going.

Ok ... I'm still new enough to the site that I needed to play with the wiki to see what you meant. I have now created an acct on the wiki and it looks simple enough to be able to organize reporting structure/responsibilities on the wiki.

If you will get the organization going to your likings, and let me know what you need on the wiki, I'll volunteer to make any and all changes that need to be done there. Once I've had time to learn Code Igniter a bit I'll be happy to help a bit with the coding too, but I need to do some catch up first.

I know from conversation in email with Alain that he too is willing to help out. Just let us know where and how you need our help, and I'll be there. I'm beyond confident that Alain will too.

Best Regards,
Tom Moore

Hey Chris,

I am not familiar with wiki, so i guess I will have to take a look at it.

Can you try to be more specific on what your ententions are?

Obviously, you are and will always be considered and credited with the status of "Original developper".

Are you planning to give up on your role of Main/Head developer, and have people take over the project?
Is this temporary and will you come back and reclaim this status in the future?

What about the current php point of sale web site? Who is paying for it? Will this also be transfered?

I am interested, and I think so is Tom Moore, but I think the responsabilities will have to be stated more clearly.

Best regards,

Alain.

I am looking for someone to manage the code portion of the project. I will give that person access on sourceforge, github, phppointofsale.com, but I want to keep the project under my name in case I decide to come back. (And a large portion of 10.0 is code that I have written)

The person will have all the keys to run the project.

Hi guys,

I've got the experience to start the development of this. However, the size of the project just requires more developers. I also just became father so time is very limited for me.
Is there any way where we can find new developers?

Also, the project needs more than only developers. Please feel free to add more structure into the wiki.

regards,

Christophe

Christophe,

I think you have two that are willing to help at the least right now. Alain and I are interested in the project and willing to put in time and effort to make structured changes. Alain has been playing with Code Igniter for a while already but I'm just starting to look at it. That said, I have some catch up to do.

What we need is for someone to head up the project and delegate code changes in specific areas to reach a common goal. Each of us need to start adding COMMENTS to the code so that others can more easily understand what the code is doing. Also a flow chart of the code would be excelent.

I don't want to buffalo anyone. My skills in PHP and SQL were last used YEARS ago. I can still understand the code, but it's blurry at best until I get back up to speed.

All the best,
Tom Moore

Hi all,

I am willing to assist in this project as a contributer once you guys get the structure going.

However Blasto333, even though it is true that most, if not all, the code for version 10 is one that you have written ,
and that you feel that you need to maintain credit for this project, I hope that you can appreciate the fact that, maybee in 6 months from
now, it will no longer be the case.

I/we/or anyone else who is going to take over, will also feel then, that they have contributed greatly with code, analysis, expertise and have taken this project to a whole other level. You are and always will be considered the founder and original developer for this project.

But this idea that you are leaving, and may or may not come back, and may or may not want to become again the main developer, is really ambigious and not really fair for who ever is going to make the commitment to take charge(a very big commitment if done the way it should be).

I am content in just continuing what I am doing and eager to share some code and ideas with you guys.

Alain.
